Contractor Nevada: BMC Installs Jerry Tarkanian Statue

January 1, 2014

Boyd Martin Construction recently completed the installation of a 2,000-lb. bronze statue of legendary basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian on UNLV's main campus at 4505 S Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas.  The project required demolition and new construction to place the $150,000 structure.

The bronze icon, created by artist Brian Hanlon, required 600 lbs. of clay and 200 hours of sculpting to form the model.  The statue is located at the base of the stairs to the 12-year-old, 2,500-seat Cox Pavilion, which services as the team's practice center.  The exhibit includes radius masonry walls with 8,000 lbs. of granite decorative commemorative panels.

Tarkanian took four teams to the NCAA Final Four during his tenure as coach from 1973-1992.  The Runnin' Rebels won the national championship in 1990.
